The Savo railway route from Kouvola to Mikkeli via Kuopio was opened in 1889. For Mäntyharju that meant easier transportation of produce, merchandise and especially lumber from sawmills. It also meant establishment of new businesses, including a shoe factory.
The merchandise store built right next to the station in 1903 was brought back to life when Mäntyharju bought and renovated the place, and in summer 2019, two local businesses opened their doors there. B&B Pinus, being one of those businesses, came up with the idea of a Makasiini Shop & Café.
In summer, the boutique offers eco-friendly, individual, domestically made products and the cafe such delicious treats like freshly ground coffee and waffles. From its first year of business, Makasiini has been a popular meeting spot and many have come popped in for a coffee and a quick shopping trip.
You are warmly welcome in our warm-hearted Makasiini, where the cafe treats are brought to the table and the souvenirs are fun and unique.
