B&B Pinus is a cosy, peaceful and atmospheric bed and breakfast in Lakeland Finland. We are close (about 1km) to both the railway station and the Mäntyharju town centre. Art centre Salmela is only 3km away and national park Repovesi about 35km. We are also right next to the starting point of Mäntyharju-Repovesi route, which was chosen as the best hiking spot in 2015.
B&B Pinus is located on a hill, at the base of which, right along the beautiful lakeshore, goes an old, still functional railway, creating a unique, romantic atmosphere. For a full experience, we offer you a comfortable stay, good service and a big breakfast. The lady of the house has worked in many spheres of travel industry, including being a stewardess, and the master of the house, among other things, restores old buildings to their former glory and has even worked in the film industry. The family occupies the opposite wing of the main building, so we are always ready to help and ensure that your vacation or business trip is as successful as possible.
We warmly welcome you!
– Titta & Panu –
B&B Pinus offers two spacious, beautifully restored historical rooms in the main building as well as two bright and airy summer rooms.
The main building used to be the station master’s house, back in the day, and its rooms come with a fantastic view of the nearby lake. Summer rooms are located in a separate building at the edge of our big, sunlit backyard.
The backyard has a barbecue hut with a gas grill available to all our guests. There is also a separate campfire at your disposal. You can prepare and enjoy your food there or perhaps go to one of many local restaurants to enjoy delicious Finnish cuisine.
Mäntyharju is a region where breathtaking nature and rich culture meet in a glorious mix of activities and events. Situated right on the edge of Finnish Lakeland, it is a place where the lakes truly start when coming from the south. And it’s easily accessible by train from Helsinki, in just about two hours—or two and a half, if you’re coming from the Helsinki-Vantaa airport.
Mäntyharju is just a short drive or ride away from Mikkeli–a city where you can find such unique sites as Kenkävero vicarage with its quaint shops and restaurants, Tertti Manor farm that is heaven for gastronomes and foodies, as well as plenty of museums and other cultural experiences. For those seeking summer fun, Mikkeli offers an aquapark (Visulahti). Similarly Kouvola, another city just a drive away, has an aquapark and a theme park (Tykkimäki).
With its 453 lakes total, our nature is exceptionally beautiful. You can enjoy it in many ways: about a kilometer from our bed and breakfast, at Linkkumylly rental place, you can not only find whatever equipment you need, but go canoeing straight from there, along Keisarinlahti route or Mäntyharju-Repovesi route. Or if you prefer solid ground, you can rent fat bikes, mountain bikes, city bikes, children bikes etc.
B&B Pinus is also close to both Citypatikka trail and a major Mäntyharju-Repovesi hiking trail. Citypatikka starting point is about a kilometer away and follows the beautiful lakeshore for several kilometers, then ventures into the forest, all the way to Art Centre Salmela and from there to the Mäntyharju-Repovesi trail. The trail is easy to walk and it is marked with bright orange colour. There is plenty of smaller trails for you to choose from right next door as well.
We’ll gladly help you with any practical arrangements!
In winter, Mäntyharju offers excellent skiing trails, one of them, starting at Kisala, just a kilometer away from B&B Pinus. Depending on the weather, you can also ski across iced lake Pyhävesi and often also skate.
Not far from our B&B you can find an ice skating trail and a sledding hill – no doubt a delight for both kids and adults.
Younger travellers are also welcome at Kisala’s forest playground.
Mäntyharju is a region rich in culture and bursting with events, especially in the summer. Our most known cultural site is undoubtedly Art Centre Salmela with its annual summer exhibition. Moreover, the art centre’s environment is a sigh to see: situated on beautiful lake Pyhävesi, it enhances the surrounding beauty with several historical buildings.
Across from Salmela is the beautiful Mäntyharju church. This particular church is second largest in the world amongst wooden churches. In the old church village, you can now find Iso-Pappila museum area with its old vicarage buildings and several exhibitions.
Mäntyharju summer theatre welcomes you in the same area as well.
In August, Mäntyharju celebrates its Ilokuvafestivaali – a festival where they show feel-good movies, and brighten your day with musical performances, workshops and debates.
Mäntyharjussa has numerous restaurants and cafes, particularly in the summer. Just a short walk from the B&B is a local brewery and taproom Nilkko Brewing, where you can taste local beers. In addition, Nilkko Brewing holds several events throughout the year, with music, food and drinks to enjoy.
In summertime, Mäntyharju has a charming beach cafe Miekankoski as well as several other summer restaurants, such as Kesäheinä at Art Centre Salmela or Kurkiniemi.
You are also welcome at B&B Pinus’ own Makasiini coffee shop during summer. Old Makasiini next to the railway station has the atmosphere and plenty of stories to share.
Be prepared to be received and catered for like a family member. Take your time with rich breakfast and advice from the multilinqual lady of the house. Take the advantavge of offered private sauna bath, morning or evening. Above all: sleep tight in this quiet half-paradise.
A warm and personal welcome by the helpfull owners Titta and Panu. Nice and quiet location at the edge of town, close to the railway station and shops. Summer room was clean and comfortable at a reasonable price. This place is perfect as a base for hiking the wonderful nearby Repovesi NP. If you’re looking for a real authentic Finnish experience in a homely atmosphere, then look no further!
If you want to experience the Finnish hospitality at its best, reserve accommodation here. You’ll find cosy rooms in wooden buildings, large, grassy yard with places for barbecue, friendly hosts, wood-heated sauna, and abundant and delicious breakfast. The location of Pinus is on a high ridge, with great views to the lake. This landscape is very Finnish, too. When arriving we had a lively chat with the hostess; later she served us delicious berry pie made by her son. In the evening, after sauna we sat late in the yard and watched the sunset behind the lake.
This cosy and hospitable B&B is the best recommendation if you’re looing for a place to stay while exploring the Saimaa area! Beautifully furnished and comfortable rooms make you feel like home and the breakfast spoils you with freshly made dishes from local ingredients! If you have any questions about activities or places in the region, no worries they will be answered by your hosts wo do their best to make your stay a great experience!
We stayed two nights at the Bed and Breakfast Pinus in Mäntyharju, and we could gladly recommend this little cosy domestic place. Having a nice experience about to stay in old wooden house beside the lake view. The owner couple was offering nice, personal and special service, e.g. sauna and excellent breakfast with home made bread, pies and specially healthy fresh porridge every morning. We stayed in a granary in a middle of the garden. The room was nicely decorated in a simply and tasteful nordic style and everything was so clean and tidy.
We stayed for one night, in the blue room. The room was beautifully decorated and quiet. The breakfast was great, it was a lot more varied than I had expected. Also the staff was very friendly, they found the time to chat a little with the customers, although the BB was fully booked. An excellent choice for those who enjoy a peaceful stay and proper breakfast!
